SC Republican Primary Ballot Includes Voters to Choose Party at Registration Question

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for this post.

The South Carolina State Primary is on June 9th.

The Republican Primary Ballot will ask an Advisory Question, “Do you support giving voters the right to register with the Political Party of your choice?”

Currently South Carolina has Open Primaries, and the Voter Registration Form does Not ask about Party Affiliation.

Any Voter on Primary Day is free to Choose any Party’s Primary Ballot.

If the idea Passes with a Big Margin, in 2021, Richard thinks, the Republican Party will try to Persuade the Legislature, which has a Republican Majority, to Implement a Closed Primary System.

This year, since any Voter is Free to Choose the Republican Ballot, this Question may Motivate Voters who don’t normally choose the Republican Primary Ballot, to Choose it.

Will it be to Pass it or Reject it?

UPDATE

The Question on the Republican Ballot to Change the Voter Registration Form to ask the Applicant which Party, if any, they want to join, is Passing with 86.6% of the Vote.

The Republican Ballot also asked if the Law should be Changed to Eliminate Fusion, is Passing with 80.3% of the Vote.
