NJ Primary Election Moved to July 7th

New Jersey will Postpone its June 2nd Primary Election to July 7th because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The Governor, Phil Murphy (D), has already postponed a number of Local Elections to May 12th and said all those Races will be Vote-by-Mail Only.

New Jersey Voters will cast Ballots in the Major-Party Nominations for: President, Cory Booker’s U.S. Senate Seat, and all 12 of the State’s Seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

It’s likely the New July 7th date will include In-Person Voting. There also has been talk of Expanding Vote-by-Mail and Closing some Polling Places.

The Order also states that All Deadlines for Meeting Statutory Requirements for a Primary Election that are currently Scheduled to occur after April 11th will be Calculated using the July 7th, 2020 Primary Election date.

This would Not affect any Deadlines that:

1. Have already Passed, such as the Filing Deadline for Candidate Petitions for the Primary Election.

or

2. Will Pass prior to April 11th.

The Only Exception is the Deadline for Change of Party Affiliation Declaration Forms to be filed, which is currently scheduled for April 8th and will move to May 13th.

Additionally, Independent Candidate Petitions will be due by 4 p.m. July 7th, and the Electronic Signature and Submission Requirements that were set forth in Executive Order No. 105 for Primary Candidates will be Extended to these Independent Candidate Petitions.
