NY Climate Week

From Governor Andrew M. Cuomo: Like many of you, I was inspired to see hundreds of thousands of young people across the world participate in last week's Global Climate Strike, rightfully demanding that political leaders act on climate change before it's too late.

While the Federal Government Denies Science and takes our Country Backwards, Cuomo's Proud that New York is doing the Opposite and taking Strong Action to Address this Crisis Head-On.

This summer he Signed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the most Comprehensive and Aggressive Climate Law in the Country. The Legislation Mandates an 85% Reduction in State Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050 and puts New York on a Road to Economy-wide Carbon Neutrality.

He also announced the Largest Offshore wind Procurement in the Nation, totaling 1,700 Megawatts, enough Energy to Power over 1 Million Homes. But he is fighting Trump in Court to Protect this Project.

New York knows that Leading the Fight against Climate Change is Not just a Moral Imperative, it will also Create Thousands of Jobs and Position the State as a Leader in the Fast-Growing Green Economy.

This Climate Week, New York took a Host of Additional Actions to Address Climate Change and Ensure the Future of our Planet:

- New York is Partnering with Ireland and Denmark to Improve the State's Power Grid and Enable more Renewable Energy Sources.

- Announced $20 Million in Funding to Increase the Number of Clean Vehicles, including Buses and Trucks, on New York's Roads.

- New Project at JFK Airport will Electrify JetBlue's Terminal 5, Reducing Ground Fuel Usage by 200,000 Gallons a Year, thanks to State Support.

- Announced the Winners of the 76West Clean Energy Competition, presenting Awards to some of the Most Innovative Green Energy Companies that will Design the Technology that can Help us Combat Climate Change. The Grand Prize Winner of $1 Million to Optimus Technologies of Pittsburgh which Designs and Manufactures Biodiesel Fuel Systems for Diesel Trucks. Other Grant Recipients produce Biodegradable Plastic Mulch, Edible Food Coatings, and Insulation made from Cardboard.

The Environment and Climate Change are the Most Critically Important Policy Priorities we face. They Literally will Determine the Future.

It's Up to Us to Ensure that Future Generations of Americans don't Pay the Price of the Federal Administration's continued Inaction.
