FEC Publishes All Primary Dates for 2020

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access news for this post.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has compiled Primary Dates for 2020.

The Chart shows the Presidential Primary Date and also the Congressional Primary Date.

The FEC Notes that these Dates could still Change.

Footnote 2, concerning Louisiana Congressional Elections, says, “In Louisiana, a Congressional Primary is Not held.”

This shows that the FEC agrees with Richard's Commentaries about Election Systems.

Richard has written many times that Louisiana does Not Hold Primaries, except Presidential Primaries, and if a State Wants to Dispense with Party Nominees, then it is Free to Imitate Louisiana and simply Abolish Primaries.

The November Elections is similar to a Top-Two System with One Ballot. If No Candidate gets a Majority, the Top-Two Vote Getters go to a Run-off Election in December.

I wonder how the Courts would look at this if they used a Ranked-Choice Voting system and removed the Run-Off?

Supporters of Top-Two systems should take Note of the Louisiana Model.

Certain Supporters of Top-Two, when they do Acknowledge that point, sometimes Insist that Louisiana does Hold Primaries in November; but in reality, Louisiana Elects People in November, to Congress, and thus there is No Primary.

This type of system removes Voters going multiple times to the Polls and saves the State Money, and Candidates only have to Campaign for One Election and saves them the Cost of Campaigning.
