Ranked-Choice Voting Update

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for this post.

California - On May 28th, the State Senate Passed SB 212 by a Vote of 22 to 8. It lets Non-Charter Cities and Counties use Ranked-Choice Voting (RCV) for Elections for their Officers. Current Law only allows Charter Cities and Counties to do it.

Kansas - On June 11th, The Democratic Party said it will hold a Presidential Primary administrated by the Party. The Polls will open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020. It will use RCV.

Maine - The Legislature almost approved RCV for the Presidential Primary and the Presidential General Election. LD 1083 passed both Houses on June 19th, but the Senate Vote was only Tentative, and then the Legislature Adjourned before the Senate could Vote again. The Legislature must return later this year and the bill might pass then.

New York City - Voters will decide on the City Council's Charter Revisions Ballot Measures in November 2019. One change is the use of RCV in Future Primaries.

Massachusetts - The Easthampton City Council recently put a Ballot Question on the 2019 Ballot, asking Voters if they want to use RCV for Elections for City Office. If the Voters pass it, and the State Legislature approves, RCV would be used in 2021.
