The Trump administration Announced a Massive New Plan to Open One Million Acres of Federal Land in California to Fracking, including Right on the Doorstep of Yosemite National Park.
Trump's "Drill Everywhere" Plan would also allow Fracking under Schools and in Wildlife Refuges.
Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park would be at Risk Too.
There's No Way we can let Trump get away with this.
California can't Directly Ban Fracking on Federal Lands, but Fracking can't happen if there is No Way to Transport the Fracked Gas from the Wells.
So Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi's Bill, AB 342, would Ban Fracking Infrastructure on State-Controlled Lands outside Yosemite and other Places.
People who Live close to Fracking Sites report Drinking Water that literally Catches on Fire while coming out of the Faucet and Shortness of Breath from the Toxic Gases released from Injection Wells. Pregnant Women near Fracking Sites are more likely to go into Labor Prematurely.
Fracking is also a huge Source of Methane, a Global Warming Pollutant that is 25 Times more Potent than Carbon Dioxide.
It's been Linked to Increased Earthquake Activity, which Damages Rock Layers and causes Seismic Disruption.
And there have been nearly 7,000 Oil Spills in just Four States from Fracking in the Past Decade.
That's why California has a Moratorium on New Oil and Gas Development, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) hasn't Issued New Fracking Permits of any kind since 2013.
We must Stop Trump's Plan to allow Fracking on the Doorstep of iconic Parks like Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia.
Step One is to Mobilize Grassroots Pressure Nationwide on the Trump Administration and Congress, Opposing Fracking near Yosemite. With Enough of this Pressure, we can get Congressional Republicans to Join the Opposition and Force Trump to at least Scale Back the Plan, like when the Republican Governor of Florida convinced Trump to Exempt the State from his Offshore Drilling Plan.
But we Can't Count on Trump or Republicans to do right by California, so that’s why we need to push Legislation in Sacramento to Stop Fracking by Banning Fracking Infrastructure on State-Controlled Lands near Yosemite and All the other Special Places that are at Risk.
