My NY State Senator's Response to Climate Change Letter

This is my New York State Senator, Liz Krueger (D-28th District) response to my Letter.

Dear Mr. Drucker

Thank you for writing my office in regards to climate change. As you know, climate change is adversely affecting economic well-being, public health, natural resources, and the environment of New York. I share your concerns regarding this important issue of reducing greenhouse emissions and protecting our community. I am a cosponsor of the NYS Climate & Community Protection Act (S2992).

The severity of current climate change and the threat of additional and more severe change will be affected by the actions undertaken by New York and other jurisdictions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions will be required by mid-century in order to limit global warming. Action undertaken by New York to reduce greenhouse emissions will have an impact on global greenhouse gas emissions and the rate of climate change.

The purpose of the NYS Climate & Community Protection Act is to minimize the adverse impacts of climate change through a combination of measures. These measures include reducing statewide greenhouse gas emissions and improving the resiliency of the state with respect to the unavoidable impacts and risks of climate change. S2992 sets clear standards for job quality and training standards in the State’s energy sector and prioritizes the safety and health of disadvantaged communities.

Thank you again for reaching out to me and voicing your opinion on this fundamental issue. I am a strong supporter of efforts to preserve the environment, and believe it is important to limit the environmental effects of global warming. I will continue to educate my colleagues about the importance of this issue and advocate for its passage in the Senate during this legislative session. Please feel free to contact my office regarding this issue or any other concerns in the future.

Sincerely,
Liz Krueger State Senator
