Court Strikes Down OH Congressional Map

A Three Federal Judge Panel struck down Ohio’s Congressional Map on Friday.

The Ruling said the Districts were so severely Drawn to benefit Republicans that they Violated the U.S. Constitution.

The Panel Blocked Ohio Republican Lawmakers from using the Map in any future Elections, and gave Lawmakers until June 14th to come up a New Map Plan.

Republicans controlled the Redistricting Process in 2011 and Drew Lines that gave them a 12-4 Electoral Advantage in the State’s Congressional Delegation. They have maintained that Advantage since.

If they Appeal, the Supreme Court will have Three Cases of Gerrymandering to decide.

In the First Case, from Wisconsin, Democrats asked whether a State could Enact a Law Explicitly Requiring Election Maps to Favor One Party. Lawyers for State Officials said such a Law would Violate the Constitution.

In the Second Case, from Maryland, Republican asked Pretty much the Same Question.
