A Tri-Partisan Coalition of Lawmakers in the House and Senate has introduced a Bill for Vermont to adopt Ranked-Choice Voting (RCV).
The proposed Legislation is Modeled after Maine's 2016 Law and would Adopt RCV for Primary Elections and Congressional Races.
RCV Voters Rank Candidates from First to Last on their Ballot, and the Election is over if One Candidate wins a Majority.
If not, Candidates are Eliminated One-by-One and their Remaining Votes are Reallocated until One Candidate reaches a Majority and Wins.
The Goal is to Eliminate Vote-Splitting between like-minded Candidates and Voters in Races between more than Two Candidates.
“It just kind of tallies the will of the people much more accurately than the current system we have because it allows people to really make a statement about every candidate,” Rep. Laura Sibilia (I-127th District, Dover), Plans on Spearheading an Effort in the House to Pass a RCV Bill into Law.
Sen. Chris Pearson (/Progressive Party-6th District, Chittenden), will also be introducing a RCV Bill in the Senate.
