In 2018, Michael Bloomberg's Bloomberg Philanthropies Challenged the Largest U.S. Cities to Submit Big Ideas to Tackle Climate Change for the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge, a $70 Million, Two-Year Acceleration Program that Empowers Mayors to deliver Proven and Innovative Solutions.

Together, the Climate Challenge Policies the 25 Cities will Pursue have the potential to Reduce Carbon Emissions by 40 Million Metric Tons, the Equivalent of taking 10 Coal-Fired Power Plants Offline or taking 8.5 Million Cars Off the Road for One year.

Overall, when you Combine All of the Actions the 25 Cities are doing to Reduce Emissions, they can Achieve the Equivalent of Closing 20 Coal Plants.
