Maine GOP Contested Congressional Ranked Choice Voting Results

On November 13th, Congressman Bruce Lee Poliquin (R-2nd District), and some Voters in his District filed a Federal Lawsuit to Enjoin the Use of Ranked Choice Voting in last week’s Election.

The Case is Assigned to Judge Lance E. Walker, a Trump Appointee.

In a hotly Contested Race for Maine’s Second Congressional District, No Candidate garnered more than 50% of First-Round Votes. Thus, under Maine’s Ranked-Choice Voting Process, additional Rounds of Tabulation are required.

The Current Results are: Incumbent Republican Bruce Poliquin, 46% of the Vote; Democrat Jared Golden, 46% of the Vote; Independent Tiffany Bond, 6% of the Vote; and Independent William Hoar, 2% of the Vote.

The Ballots are being Transported to Augusta, where Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap’s Office will Oversee the Additional Rounds of Tabulations.

William Hoar, who has apparently Received the Lowest Number of Votes, will be Eliminated, and each Vote Cast for him will be Reassigned to the Second Choice Candidate, and the Results will be Re-Tabulated.

This Process will Repeat until a Candidate emerges with more than 50% of the Vote, and the remaining Votes are Less than the First and Second Vote Difference, will be the Winner.

The First Choice Vote Count shows that Poliquin was ahead by 2,000 Votes than his Democratic Opponent, Jared Golden.

However, 8% of the Voters used their First Choice Votes to Support One of the Two Independent Candidates in the Race.

When the Ranked Choice Process Count the Next Rounds, virtually everyone expects Golden will win.

After the Judge Denied Poliquin Request, the Second Round has Completed and Golden Won with over 2,000 more Votes.
