DHS Secretary Admits Russians Interfered in Order to Boost Trump's Chances in 2016

Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, admitted Wednesday for the first time that Russian Interference in the 2016 Election was designed to Help get President Trump Elected.

Nielsen, addressing Cyber Threats from Foreign Countries during an Event at George Washington University in D.C., offered her clearest Condemnation yet of Russian President Putin and his Role in orchestrating the Meddling attempt.

"At Vladimir Putin's direction, Moscow launched a brazen, multi-faceted influence campaign to undermine public faith in our democratic process and to distort our presidential election," Nielsen said. "Although no actual ballots were altered by this campaign, make no mistake: This was a direct attack on our democracy."
She added that the Trump Administration "will not tolerate" such interference nor "let it happen again.”

In the past, Nielsen has wavered when asked whether Russia Interference was Conducted in order to Help Trump get Elected. "I haven't seen any evidence that the attempts to interfere in our election infrastructure was to favor a particular political party,” she said in July, Countering the U.S. Intelligence Community’s Assessment that Moscow-based Hackers and Agents were trying to Sway the Election in Trump’s favor.

Nielsen said Wednesday that Threats to the U.S. from Foreign Adversaries are “at the highest levels since the Cold War.” “They are encouraging us to turn on each other, so we tear ourselves apart from the inside,” she said of Hostile Nation States. “We have never seen anything quite like it.”
