NY GOP Might Have Found How to Remove Congressman From Ballot

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access news for this post.

New York U.S. House Member, Chris Collins (R-27th District), was Indicted for Insider Trading recently, and does not wish to Run for Re-Election, even though He Won the Republican Nomination in the June 26th Congressional Primary. Rep. Chris Collins ran Unopposed for the Republican Nomination. He would have faced Nathan McMurray, the Democratic Town Supervisor of Grand Island.

He can get off the November Ballot, and let his Party Replace Him, if he Accepts another Elected Position. Republican Leaders are Considering having Him Appointed Town Clerk, or perhaps Town Assessor, of Eden. Collins does not live in Eden, that's in Erie County and has a Population of 7,688.

Both Positions recently became Vacant and currently are not on the November Ballot.

However, Elected Officials of Eden do not like that idea. And Republicans, Conservatives, and Democrats protested in Eden last Night against the Possibility of Congressman Chris Collins serving as Town Clerk or Assessor.

"Eden doesn't want to be a pawn in this game," said Edward Krycia, Jr, Eden Democratic Party Chairman. "Realistically I don't see Chris Collins moving to Eden or working at a job that pays about $15,000 a year. I'd be surprised. And I would put my faith in the town board that he would never be appointed here."

Speculation about Collins Political Future was been swirling almost Two Weeks now, since his Indictment. That prompted Him to Suspend his Campaign for Re-Election shortly after.

"We have no power to make this decision on who's name goes on the ballot in November," said Michael Byrnes, (C) Town of Eden Councilman. ""What we would want is someone from this town, that's invested into this community that would want to serve four years as the assessor for the town of Eden. That's the way we go."

"We've made it very clear, that the residents of our town are what matter to us, politics do not as this point," said Melissa Hartman, (R) Eden Town Supervisor.

Any Changes to the Ballot cannot be made until after the September 13th State and Local Primary.
