NY BOE Finalized Rules for Online Political Ads

New York's Elections Board (BOE) has finalized a New State Law requiring more Information about Groups paying for Online Political Ads.

Lawmakers and Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo Approved the New Rules earlier this year, but today the Four Election Commissioners issued the Final Regulations.

New York Gov. Cuomo says he wanted to see the Strongest Possible Regulations to prevent Nefarious Groups and Foreign Entities from using Ads and Social Media to influence Elections.

The New Law requires the State's Board of Elections to maintain a Searchable Database File of All Political Ads Paid for by any Individuals or Groups, and make them available on a BOE webpage.

It requires Facebook and other Social Media sites to ensure Political Ads show who placed the AD and who Paid for the Ad.

It requires AD Network Distributers to file these Political Ads into the BOE's Database, so Users can Search using the BOE Ad webpage.
