Marion County IN Election Board Approves Six Early Voting Locations After Federal Court Order

The Marion County, Indianapolis, Election Board announced Wednesday the Addition of six Early Voting Sites ahead of the General Election.

The announcement comes just months after U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker called for at least Two Satellite Voting Locations to be added to Marion County before the November Election.

The following Satellite Locations will be available to Voters between October 26th and November 4th:

- Washington Township Government Center, 5302 N. Keystone Avenue, Suite B.

- Lawrence Education and Community Center, 6501 Sunnyside Road.

- Perry Township Government Center, 4925 Shelby St., No. 200.

- Franklin Township Annex Learning Center, 6019 S. Franklin Road.

- Eugene and Marilyn Glick Technology Center, 2620 N. Meridian St.

- International Marketplace Coalition, 3685 Commercial Drive.

These Locations will be Open from 11a.m. to 7p.m. on Weekdays and 10a.m. to 5p.m. on Weekends. Hours for Early Voting at the City-County Building Downtown will be announced at a later date, according to a News Release.

Last year, State and Local Republicans had expanded Early Voting Locations in Republican-dominated Hamilton County but Decreased Locations in Marion County, a Democratic Stronghold.

Judge Barker issued the Injunction in April as a response to a Lawsuit filed by the Indianapolis NAACP and Common Cause Indiana that claimed the County's failure to provide adequate Early Voting Locations had Suppressed Voting Rights in Urban Communities. Barker called the Move "Partisanship motivated. In view of the absence of any credible neutral and nonpartisan explanation for the (Marion County Election) Board’s failure to re-establish satellite (voting) offices after 2008 and 2009, the record permits only one conclusion," Barker wrote in the Injunction.

The last time Marion County had Multiple Early Voting Locations was during the 2008 Election, when Barack Obama became the First Democratic Presidential Candidate to carry the State since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
