The READ Act Update

The Senate Passed the READ Act this week, a Bill that works to get Millions of Children around the World access to an Education. That means Millions of Girls are one step closer to getting the Education they deserve.

H.R.601: Research Excellence and Advancements for Dyslexia Act (READ) - Sponsor: Rep. Nita M. Lowey [D, NY-17th District]. To enhance the Transparency and accelerate the Impact of Assistance provided under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to promote Quality Basic Education in Developing Countries, to better enable such Countries to achieve Universal Access to Quality Basic Education and Improved Learning outcomes, to Eliminate Duplication and Waste, and for other purposes.

Getting to this point was no small feat. Fighting for Education is something ONE Members, I am one, have been working on for Months. By making Calls and Sending Letters, we pushed it through the House, not once, but twice.

We stayed with it as the Senate took up other issues this Summer because putting Millions of Children in School is not something that should fall to the wayside. And on top of all that, we've been Fighting to Protect the International Assistance Budget, which Funds Programs that this Bill Strengthens and Promotes. Now that's how Advocacy is done!

This Bill wouldn’t have passed the Senate without the hard work of ONE Members across the Country, but it wouldn’t have passed without the help of every Senator either. With the Senate’s Unanimous Approval, 263 Million Children around the World, including 130 Million Girls, will have Access to Education.
