NYC Mayoral Candidate Bo Dietl Has to Run as Independent

A Manhattan Appeals Court has upheld a Judge’s Ruling that Bo Dietl, the garrulous former Police Detective, can’t Run as a Democrat in his long shot Bid for Mayor in this September’s Primaries because he Failed to Properly Register himself for either Party.

The Ruling, by a Five-Judge Panel of the First Department of the Appellate Division, came after a Decision last month by County Republican Officials not to grant Mr. Dietl a Waiver allowing him to enter the Party’s Primary.

Dietl, who intended to run on the Democratic Ticket, checked both the Democratic and Independent Party boxes when he filled out his New Voter Registration Form in New York City, according to Court papers.

The Board of Elections deemed this as registering for “Blank” or No Political Party and Dietl is now being forced to run as an Independent.

When Dietl tried to correct the error and Register as Democrat he was Denied since he had been listed as a Republican for five years prior, Court papers say.

Lawyers for Dietl made the argument that since he couldn’t join the Democrats his Party Affiliation as a Republican should have carried over from where he was previously registered in Albertson, NY.
