Republican Assemblywoman Malliotakis to File Candidacy for NYC Mayor

New York State Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-District 64) will officially file paperwork to run forNew York City Mayor today, becoming the third Republican in the Race.

While she previously said she was going to wait until fellow Republican and Greek-American John Catsimatidis, a Grocery and Oil Magnate, decides whether or not to run, she confirmed that she will file her Candidate Registration with the City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) today.

Catsimatidis said Sunday that his decision is "days away. We're leaning toward it." As of Tuesday, he has not yet announced what he plans to do.

Malliotakis said she will participate in a Republican Mayoral Candidate Forum in Manhattan on Wednesday.

Manhattan GOP Chairwoman Adele Malpass said Malliotakis could do so if she filed with the CFB and declared her Candidacy before Wednesday. "Nicole would be a fantastic candidate," Malpass tsaid, stopping short of endorsing her. "She's a rock star in the Republican Party. She would land lots of punches on Mayor de Blasio."

Malliotakis, along with fellow Republican Assemblyman Ron Castorina Jr., have been pushing back against Mayor Bill de Blasio and his Municipal ID program, IDNYC.

They argue the City's Plan to destroy Personal Documents associated with it, like Foreign and U.S. Passports, Visas, Birth Certificates, and Utility Bills and Leases, would hinder Law Enforcement efforts and violate Freedom of Information Laws that require Government Transparency.

The City argues maintaining the Documents and making Redacted versions of them subject to Freedom of Information Requests would be a Violation of Privacy.

Losing their initial Lawsuit, the pair have filed an Appeal, as well as a second Suit against de Blasio and the City.

Malliotakis' Candidate filing with the CFB will follow another CFB filing she made on Monday that allows her Assembly Campaign Committee, Nicole for New York, to donate to her City Campaign Committee, Nicole for New York City. She Registered that Account with the State Board of Elections as well.

Candidates have until May to file their Candidacies with the CFB, and must Circulate Petitions and collect Signatures in June, filing them in July.

Michel Faulkner, Paul Massey, and independent Bo Dietl are all vying for the Republican Nomination and will attend the GOP Candidate Screening in Manhattan on Wednesday.
