The Independent View: Our Revolution's State of the Revolution

Our Revolution Mission is to reclaim Democracy for the Working People of our Country by harnessing the transformative energy of the “Political Revolution.” Through supporting a new generation of Progressive Leaders, empowering millions to fight for Progressive change and elevating the Political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American Politics to make our Political and Economic systems once again responsive to the needs of Working Families.

Our Revolution has three intertwined goals:

- To Revitalize American Democracy - Our Revolution will revitalize American democracy by unifying the millions of people who got involved over the course of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign in support of progressive causes. Our Revolution will give the people a major voice in the political system by activating supporters and engaging millions more Americans in the political process.

- Empower Progressive Leaders - Our Revolution will empower the next generation of progressive leaders by inspiring and recruiting progressive candidates to run for offices across the entire spectrum of government. From school boards to congressional seats, a new generation of political leaders, dedicated to transforming America’s corrupt campaign finance system and rigged economy, will become involved. Our Revolution will provide leaders inspired by the “political revolution” with the unparalleled digital tools, organizing knowledge and grassroots support successfully utilized throughout Senator Sanders’ campaign.

- Elevate the Political Consciousness - The corporate media has largely failed to cover the issues critical to the future of our country: from the devastating effects of climate change to the decline of the middle class. Our Revolution will educate the public about the most pressing issues confronting our nation and the bold solutions being offered. This effort will ensure that drowned out voices are heard and become an important part of the local, state and national dialogue.

Last night's State of the Revolution livestream brought together thousands of Progressive Activists and community Leaders across America. Their focus on Local Groups highlighted the success of their Organizing Chapters and exemplified the influence that the Grassroots can wield over the Electoral process. Our Revolution's Endorsement model empowers Local Groups to lift up Grassroots Candidates because we know that the Political Revolution isn't going to happen in Washington, it's happening every day in your Communities.

Local Groups are the lifeblood of their movement, and now is the time that we must be building them. As Board Member Nina Turner said last night, “We are in the 440 relay race of our lives. What Bernie started last year is still continuing strong in the thousands of Our Revolution members organizing locally.”

In just a few short months, Our Revolution has had over 1,000 Groups apply to join the National Organization with hundreds approved and in the on-boarding process, and recruited over 12,000 Candidates for Local office. Candidates like Mike Connolly and khalid kamau ran and won their Elections against incredible odds to advance Single-Payer Health Care and a $15 Minimum Wage, proving that with the support of Local Groups real change is possible.

Their Candidates, Local Leaders, and their dedicated Staff and Volunteers are the evidence that we don't need to wait for the Establishment to make a difference in our Community. We understand that people who themselves have never been involved in the Political process can not only help transform the Party, but bring their entire Community with them to Reinvigorate it.
