New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo revealed more of his 2017 agenda on Sunday in a series of announcements ahead of his half dozen Regional speeches that start on Monday for the State of the State tour.
Among his proposals include revived efforts to Expand Voting Access in New York by calling for Early Voting, and Automatic & Same-Day Registration.
Another measure is designed to crack down on wage theft by reviewing the top 10 Members of Out-of-State LLCs personally liable for unsatisfied judgments.
Cuomo also wants to push an effort designed to promote Electric Vehicle use by building 500 workplace Charging Stations, along with 69 Stations along the Thruway system.
The Governor also wants to pass measures that are aimed at strengthening the rights of the elderly against fraud when it comes to Foreclosures and Reverse Mortgages.
Cuomo is backing a plan to expand the power of the Superintendent of the Department of Financial Services to go after violations similar to the wrongdoing during the Wells Fargo Banking scandal. “New York is the financial center of the world and we have zero tolerance for those who seek to defraud customers and undermine the system,” Cuomo said in a statement. “The excesses and systematic abuse at the center of the Wells Fargo scandal is unacceptable and New York, in its role as a regulator, is seeking to take bold steps to crack down on this unacceptable behavior and ensure these bad actors are barred from working in this industry once and for all.”
Cuomo is kicking off a Statewide tour for the State of the State beginning in New York City and Buffalo on Jan 9th.
