Record Number of NY Voter Registration Applications Submitted Online In September

With the Presidential election one month away, New York is celebrating an Online Voter Registration record.

More than 140,600 Voter Registration applications were submitted through the State Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) website in September. More than half of the applications, over 78,400, were from first-time voters.

The Online Registration available through the MyDMV web portal was launched in 2012. Over that time, the website has processed more than 607,600 Online Voter Registration applications, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.

The previous record for most Voter Registration applications received in a month was set earlier this year. The State DMV received more than 98,400 applications, including close to 50,400 from first-time voters, in March, one month prior to the State's Presidential Primary.

In September 2015, the State received more than 9,200 Voter Registration applications, including approximately 3,400 from first-time voters. The State processed more than 13,700 applications in September 2012.

"Knocking down artificial barriers to New York's voter registration process has encouraged hundreds of thousands of voters to get involved," Gov. Cuomo said. "I encourage eligible New Yorkers to take advantage of this convenient and accessible online tool before October 14 in order to ensure their voices are heard this November."

The deadline to register to vote in the Presidential election is October 14th.
