NYC 2016 Student Voter Registration Day Program

On October 6th, New York City's Student Voter Registration Day (SVRD) will Register Students Ahead of Voter Registration Deadline.

SVRD was conceived to increase Youth Voter Registration and get New York City students excited about getting involved in the democratic process. The inaugural event was held on March 20, 2015 and registered over 2,000 students at 25 schools across the City.

Through interactive discussion, SVRD facilitators encourage students to explore the issues that are most important to them, and challenge them to think critically about how these issues are dealt with at the public policy level, to help connect voting to their everyday lives. SVRD volunteers help students of age complete their registration forms.

The New York Immigration Coalition, in partnership with New York City Council, NYC Votes, and the New York City Department of Education, will hold a press conference to announce plans for the 2016 Student Voter Registration Day (SVRD) to be held in high schools across New York’s Five Boroughs.

Eligible students will be registered to vote by the October 14th Voter Registration Deadline in order to participate in this November’s Presidential Elections.

The program will inspire and prepare all students to become active members of their Communities beyond Election Day. SVRD was also held earlier this year in March and succeeded in registering 8,500 students. The program will be held bi-annually, with the goal of registering 10,000 students in 125 schools.
