The Cross-Partisan Open Debate Coalition Gives Voters a Voice in Next Presidential Debate

The Cross-Partisan Open Debate Coalition have a huge announcement. You get a voice in the next presidential debate.

Moderators from ABC and CNN will ask questions from the Internet at the October 9th Town Hall debate.

They just agreed to receive and consider the top 30 questions submitted and voted on by the Public at the Open Debate Coalition voting site.

The Open Debate Coalition includes many organizations that don’t agree with each other on much, but agree that Presidential Debate questions should better reflect the will of the people.

Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist and Coalition Director Lilia Tamm Dixon at meetings with ABC and CNN made the case for questions voted up by the Public.
They represented others: Craig from Craigslist, Arianna Huffington, MoveOn, Freedom Works, National Organization for Women, NARAL, Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Coalition, ColorOfChange, Presente, Numbers USA, Democracy for America, Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales, and dozens of others.

ABC and CNN listened, and seem excited to be leaders in innovating the debates. They were aware that the Open Debate Coalition sponsored a successful bottom-up U.S. Senate debate in Florida earlier this year, which candidates and the public loved.

Today, Co-Chair of the Commission on Presidential Debates Mike McCurry, embraced their effort. He said, “This year's presidential debate moderators will have a rich pool of voter-submitted questions they can draw on that carry greater weight because they are backed by votes from the American people."
