CPD Action is Trying to Reverse 30+ States Restrict Voting Rights‏

CPD Action, along with their sister organization Center for Popular Democracy, works to create equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with high-impact base-building organizations, organizing alliances, and progressive unions. The work on campaigns that promote a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda and win victories to improve people’s lives.

Building power in our communities in the face of racist, sexist, homophobic institutions influenced by a corporate agenda is no easy feat, but they have a game plan. They are taking their efforts to the streets to make sure the voices of working people are heard this November, and they need your help to make it happen.

Republicans are still trying to deny millions of Americans, mostly low-income people and people of color, the fundamental right to vote, at a time when their voices need to be heard more than ever.

For the next 10 weeks, CPD Action and their partners will be organizing in Key States across the Country to register voters and make sure Community voices aren’t silenced in this year’s Election.

More than 30 States have Voter ID laws that make it harder for communities of color and low-wage workers to make it to the polls. Despite recent court rulings against these discriminatory laws in North Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin, and North Dakota, the fight is far from over.

Even in North Carolina, where an Appeals Court struck down the State’s strict Voter ID law last month, heavy pushback from the Republican Party aims to keep significant Voter restrictions in place for this year's Election. Specifically, Conservative County Officials have moved to reduce early voting, which is used disproportionately by Black communities, and reduce the number of polling locations.

These restrictions make voting extremely hard for working people who have so much on their plate already. That’s why CPD Action and their partners will be organizing on the ground with Community leaders in more than a dozen Key States leading up to November 8th.

Here’s their plan breakdown:

- Organizers will register voters, make sure they know where their Polling locations are, and that they have a plan set for turning out to vote on Election day. The focus will be in Swing States and States where big battles over Voting rights and economic equality are taking place including North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, and Ohio.

- The CPD Action team and their partners will hold accountable City and State Legislators up for Election who have ignored the voices of low-wage workers, women, immigrants, and people of color, moving to oust them while advocating for Progressive Legislators who will further the fight for equality in 2017.

- They will also push Ballot Initiatives in multiple States, such as minimum wage increases and fair scheduling, that empower working families.

In order for real change to happen, they will need all hands on deck to make sure the Communities most impacted by today’s social and economic injustices have a say in our Country’s future. It starts with getting them to the polls.

Every voice should count in a democracy. Help us make that vision a reality and lift worker voices this November.
