On January 27, 2012, the U.S. District Court designated the fourth Tuesday of June the date for Federal Primaries to comply with the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) of 1986.
Before, the vote was in September, when the Federal and State Primaries were on the same ballot, and did not allow the state to deliver absentee ballots in time for the vote, which was designated as 45 days before the vote for the Federal Primaries.
So this year the Federal Primaries was on June 28, 2016.
