NYS Former Senate Majority Leader Sentenced Today

Former New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam, convicted of corruption charges in December, are scheduled to be sentenced in Manhattan Federal court Today by Judge Kimba Wood.

Their sentencing comes shortly after that of ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who landed 12 years behind bars and a $1.75 million fine - in addition to forfeiting $5.3 million.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office has argued that Dean and Adam Skelos should each spend at least 10 years behind bars.

Prosecutors charge that Dean Skelos, who used his position as one of New York's three most-powerful politicians to enrich Adam, should serve between 13 to 16 years in Federal lockup.

Dean Skelos was sentenced today in Lower Manhattan to five years in prison on Federal corruption charges.

His son, Adam Skelos, was sentenced to 6 1/2 years.

U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood also ordered the Long Island Republican to pay a $500,000 fine.

The two men were convicted on eight counts of bribery, extortion and honest services fraud last year, which included Skelos using his office to provide so-called no-show jobs for his son.
