NYC Comptroller Slams City’s Broken Voting System

New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer is ready to take a “sledgehammer” to the City’s voting system following the disappearance of 126,000 Brooklyn Democrats from election rolls that came to light during last week’s Primary. “We have a broken voting system,” Stringer said Sunday.

His office is planning to audit the Board of Elections (BOE), but Stringer said the agency shouldn’t wait for his report. “The Board of Elections has to get their act together. First, they have to admit they have a problem,” he said.

The mass purge was caused by the combination of a data-entry error and the agency’s failure to send out postcards to Brooklyn voters who were about to be eliminated from the election rolls, sources said.

The Primary chaos benched Brooklyn Chief Clerk Diane Haslett-Rudiano, who was suspended from her $125,000-a-year gig without pay last Thursday.

Stringer also slammed Albany politicians for failing to change out-of-date voting laws. He called for a few changes including same-day voter registration and early voting throughout the City.

NY State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is launching his own investigation into the BOE following more than 700 complaints that were phoned into the State Voter hotline reporting closed polling stations, faulty machines, and a slew of other problems during last Tuesday’s Primary.

With the current count, only 19% of eligible voters turned out to the polls.

Clinton has 1,941 of the 2,382 delegates needed to clinch the nomination, while Trump has 845 of the 1,237 GOP delegates.
