On February 24, the Utah legislature passed SB 25, which repeals the straight-ticket device, and also eliminates party logos from the ballot.
The bill passed unanimously in both houses.
Straight-ticket-voting or Straight-Party voting is the practice of voting for every candidate that a political party has on a ballot, by selecting a lever or checking a box.
On March 18, Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed SB 25, which repeals the straight-ticket device.
The only states that still have them are:
- Alabama
- Indiana - There are bills in each house of the Indiana Legislature to repeal the device (SB 391 and HB 1020)
- Iowa
- Kentucky
- Oklahoma
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Texas
