Fix Our Elections and Restore Fairness

Americans are struggling to have their voices heard. They are being muted by a lack of fairness and transparency in our election system.

Blatantly gerrymandered districts dilute the power of minorities, so the party in power can stay in power. Citizens United lets billionaires make unlimited and undisclosed campaign contributions, so they can spread their messages and get their candidates into office.

And to make matters worse, the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the agency charged with overseeing our elections, has been so weakened by partisan gridlock that it can’t enforce the few rules we still have on the books.

We need to repair our election system and restore fairness.

That’s why Senator Tom Udall (D) New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District, has taken a comprehensive approach to restoring fairness in our elections. In addition to proposing a constitutional amendment to reverse Citizens United, he’s proposed a measure that would allow citizen-led commissions to draw their districts, and one that would replace the FEC with a watchdog organization designed to better enforce our campaign finance laws.

In order to stop Congressional voting districts from being drawn by partisan state legislatures, There is a plan that would allow citizen-led commissions to determine their districts.

The proposed measure would replace the FEC with a watchdog organization designed to better enforce our campaign finance laws and reign in the power of Super PACs and their billionaire donors.

These are steps to make sure people all across the nation can have their voices heard and their votes counted equally.
