The Global Food Security Act, H.R. 1567, ensures that the U.S. builds upon the successes of existing efforts to improve global food and nutrition security, particularly through the whole-of-government and comprehensive Feed the Future Initiative.
This legislation strengthens the United States’ collective commitment to helping developing countries grow their way out of poverty and overcome hunger and malnutrition. Studies have shown that growth in the agriculture sector is 11 times more effective at reducing poverty as growth in other sectors in sub-Saharan Africa.
I strongly urge you to join Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Betty McCollum (D-MN), the sponsors of H.R. 1567, and sign on as a Co-Sponsor to this bill.
The House could vote on the Global Food Security Act (H.R. 1567) as early as next week, and we need to make sure there are as many Co-Sponsors to this bill as possible before the vote takes place.
795 million people around the world suffer from hunger today. H.R. 1567 strengthens our commitment to helping developing countries grow their way out of hunger, malnutrition, and extreme poverty. It works to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry, and every mother can feed her family.
Investing in agriculture is one of the best ways to reduce poverty in Africa.
Therefore, this is a bill we can, and must, get behind.
The best way to do that right now is to ask your Representative to be a Co-Sponsor.
