Another Judge Decision for NY's WEP Party

Another twist in the Women's Equality Party (WEP) effort to field candidates in the November election.

Attorneys for the party "said on Monday they plan on appealing a State Supreme Court judge’s decision to block the minor party from appearing on Nassau’s General Election ballot.

Nassau Conservative Party Chairman Daniel Donovan and other Nassau GOP activists had filed a lawsuit seeking to bar the Nassau Board of Elections from listing candidates under the WEP, a statewide party formed by Democratic Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo during his reelection bid last year.

This is after, on Oct. 14, 2015. the Appellate court brought a victory for the Cuomo administration on the overarching issue of who controls Gov. Andrew Cuomo-created Women’s Equality Party (WEP).

This ruling says: “Although two other factions subsequently filed purported rules of the WEP, neither was supported or endorsed by any WEP statewide candidate from the 2014 general election. Absent such statewide candidate support, they cannot be deemed rules of the WEP for the purpose of creating a ‘question or conflict relating to the rules or the rule-making body’ of WEP.”
