As of September 7, 2015, according to the Federal Election Commission(FEC) database, 1077 candidates have filed a Statement of Candidacy (FEC FORM 2) to run for President in 2016.
A total of 196 Republicans and 142 Democrats will be competing for their party's 2016 presidential nomination.
There are many third party Independent, and Write-In candidates in the mix.
About 327 Independents and 412 candidates from other parties are also running for President in 2016.
