August 3, 2015 Republican Presidential Candidates Forum to be Televised

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for this post.

Several newspapers (New Hampshire Union Leader, the Charleston, S.C, Post & Courier, the Cedar Rapids, IA, Gazette, and WLTX-TV in Columbia) are sponsoring a joint forum for Republican Presidential candidates on Monday evening, August 3 2015 in New Hampshire. The “Voters First Forum,” will held at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire.

The candidates will not appear simultaneously; instead each one will be on the stage alone.

The newspapers invited all 17 Republicans who seem to have a genuine campaign, based on how many campaign events they have set up, and whether they have campaign offices and staff.

Three of the 17 declined to participate: Donald Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore who filed to late to met the criteria to take part.

The other 14 candidates will appear by themselves in rapid succession and be quizzed by moderator Jack Heath, a local talk-radio personality.

When Fox News announced its criteria, Republicans in New Hampshire felt they were being marginalized, and so the Union Leader, an institution in the state, decided to organize a candidate forum before the first debate.

The candidates at the Union Leader forum will appear in two waves. There will be a first round of questions, and then each candidate will get a second chance onstage to respond to anything that’s been said by others. The event is two hours long, and even without any commercial interruptions, each candidate will likely get a total of around eight minutes of stage time.

It will be broadcast nationally on C-SPAN, and in New Hampshire on a number of local stations simultaneously. It begins at 7 p.m. ET.
