The Florida Supreme Court threw out parts of the state's congressional map on Thursday, ruling that state lawmakers violated a provision of the Florida constitution prohibiting political considerations in redistricting when drawing the districts.
Specifically, the state legislature must redraw eight of the state's 27 congressional districts, including battleground seats currently held by GOP Reps. David Jolly and Carlos Curbelo, and any other districts potentially affected by changes.
The state legislature already redrew the map once last summer after a court tossed the first attempt. But the state's highest court ruled Thursday that the trial court that initially ordered the redrawing applied incorrect standards in its judgment.
