A 21st Century Democracy Agenda

Our next president needs to build a government truly of, by, and for the people.

Common Cause says: The 2016 election is our best chance yet to stop big money from drowning us out.

They joined with 11 other organizations representing Americans from all walks of life to call for a democracy where:

- Everyone participates.
- Public matching funds let even small donors make a difference.
- Everyone’s voice is heard, and every American has equal access to the ballot box.
- Everyone knows who is trying to influence our democracy, all spending is disclosed.
- Everyone plays by fair, common-sense rules.
- Pass the Democracy for All amendment to overturn Citizens United.
- Everyone is held accountable, with enforceable penalties to deter bad behavior.

The next president must appoint reform-minded officials to act on these principles, and use his or her national platform to fight big money, empower the American people, and build a democracy that serves all of us.

They are calling on every presidential candidate to promise they’ll get it done, and back up that promise with action.
