States Changing Presidential Primary Dates

Alabama - SB 240 moves all primaries from 2nd Tuesday in March to the 1st Tuesday in March. So the 2016 primary will be on 03/3/2016.

Arkansas - Legislature passed SB 8, also called Act 4:

Arkansas - Code § 7-7-203, concerning the dates of the general primary election and preferential primary election, are amended to read as follows:

(a) The general primary election shall be held on the fourth Tuesday in March, March 22, 016 before the general election.

(b) The preferential primary election shall be held on the Tuesday three (3) weeks before the general primary election.

Richard Winger of Ballot Access News reports:

On May 29, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed SB 8, the bill that moves the primary for all office in 2016 from late May to early March, and which moves the petition deadline for new parties to September 2015 and the non-presidential independent deadline to November 2015. The bill also forces new parties to have chosen all their 2016 nominees no later than November 2015. It is possible the Libertarian Party will sue over the deadline for it to have chosen all its nominees. There has never before been any state that forced new parties to nominate all their nominees for a November even-numbered election an entire year before the election. New parties in Arkansas nominate by convention.

Nevada - Senate Bill 421 would scrap the caucus system and replace it with a secret-ballot presidential primary to be held in February. The bill would also change the primary for state election contests from June to February. SB421 was approved by the Senate on a party-line 11-9 vote. It was heard in an Assembly committee, where efforts are underway to amend it by having two primaries, one in February for the presidential races only, leaving the primary for state and local races as they are now, on the second Tuesday in June.

The Nevada legislature is meeting on Monday, June 1, the legislature’s last day to vote on SB 421.

UPDATE
On June 1, Nevada SB 421 failed to pass the Assembly. It was repeatedly delayed.
