The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy, but there is no affirmative right to vote in the U.S. Constitution.
Congressmen Mark Pocan and Keith Ellison have introduced a constitutional amendment that reads simply:
"Every citizen of the United States, who is of legal voting age, shall have the fundamental right to vote in any public election held in the jurisdiction in which the citizen resides."
A war on democracy is raging across the country.
Since 2010, 21 states have added new voting restrictions. These include “photo ID” laws that disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of student, minority, and elderly voters. They also include attacks on early voting, and laws making it harder to register to vote.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. We have come far, but our work is not finished. Now is the time once and for all to end voter suppression.
