Gov. Cuomo set May 5, 2015 as the date for the Special Election for the 11th Congressional District (Staten Island/Brooklyn) and the 43rd Assembly District (Kings)
The 43rd Assembly District election was due to the resignation of Assemblyman Karim Camara, in order to join Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration, to lead faith-based outreach programs.
The 11th Congressional District was due to the resignation of Congressman Michael Grimm after he pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge of tax evasion.
The Republicans are expected to pick Richmond County District Attorney Daniel Donovan, while Democrats have not selected a candidate, at this time. Donovan's office presided over the controversial Eric Garner case that ended with no charges against a police officer accused in the death of Garner, when he was placed in a choke hold.
