MAYDAY PAC Announces Support for Three More Candidates

Today, they announced support in the general election for Carol Shea-Porter (D, NH-1), and Walter Jones (R, NC-3), as well as our support for Ruben Gallego (D, AZ-07) in the Arizona Democratic Primary.  They also decided to expand the number of campaigns to target this cycle from five to eight.

Carol Shea-Porter and Walter Jones are both incumbents.  They have both been leaders for reform.  Walter Jones is the only elected Republican to co-sponsor the Government By the People Act.  Before that, he was the only Republican co-sponsor of the Fair Elections Now Act.  He has had the courage to lead in his own party, despite strong resistance from his party's leadership.  But reform will only happen if it is supported by Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike.

Carol Shea-Porter has also been a leader for reform in the Democratic Party.  A co-sponsor of reform legislation, and a candidate who refuses contributions from PACs, she is a strong believer in ending the system of corruption in Washington and has been willing to talk openly about DC in exactly those terms.  She talks the talk, and has literally, walked the walk.

Finally, Ruben Gallego is a critical ally for reform.  A former Marine and assistant minority leader in the Arizona House of Representatives, he will be a champion for reform in DC.  His opponent has become mired in conflict of interest scandals.  TheyA hope that because of there support, the voters in Arizona’s 7th Congressional district will have the chance to support a committed reformer this November, and that the House of Representatives will welcome him to the 114th Congress.

The next three announcements won’t come until they have field staff in place, probably at the end of this month. These next three promise to be the biggest surprises, and critical to their strategy to making fundamental reform possible.
