Generation Citizen and Voting at an Earlier Age



Generation Citizen strengthens our nation's democracy by empowering young people to become engaged and effective citizens.

They partner college students with classroom teachers to teach an action civics course in which teens apply grassroots advocacy skills to solve problems of their choosing in their own communities.

Many politicians are talking about lowering the voter age to 16 to increase citizen participation in our democracy.

On May 14, the City Council of Takoma Park, Maryland, lowered the voting age to 16 for city elections.
