NYC Term Limits

Bronx Councilman Oliver Koppell wants to change the law, and will introduce legislation to give elected NYC officials a third term. The issue took on new life with speculation Mayor Bloomberg wants to change the law and run for a third term.

City voters twice approved term limits to two terms of four years by referendum, but the city council can also change the law to three terms, despite a potential backlash.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who may run for Mayor and controls the timing, has yet to indicate where she stands on the issue.

A group, New York for Term Limits, already has an ad against the effort to change Term Limits. "Politicans are alot like diapers. They need to be changed regularly," says the ad.
