Trump Rolling Back Pregnancy Job Protections

The Biden (D) era Law was meant to help Women stay in the Workplace, but some Conservatives say Rules to Eenact it went too far with Coverage for Abortion and Fertility Treatment. The Trump (R) Administration is preparing to Scale Back Workplace Accommodations for Women related to Pregnancy and Reproductive Health.

The Moves will Limit the Impact of a 2022 Law that was meant to fill a Gap in Disability and Discrimination Protections that Employees are Guaranteed at Workplaces. It was intended to provide Accommodations for Pregnant Workers, such as Bathroom and Water Breaks, Reprieves from Heavy Lifting or Time Off for Prenatal Appointments. But the Scope of the Regulations under the Law, known as the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), has been Debated since their Drafting. Conservatives, even some who Supported the Law, said the Rule that Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) wrote to Apply the Law reached far Beyond Pregnancy to Cover Matters including Abortion, Fertility Treatment, and Related Procedures, and Conditions it was Not meant to Protect.

Narrowing them would fit with other efforts by Andrea Lucas, the E.E.O.C.’s chair, to roll back what she has called the liberal excesses of the Biden administration. The E.E.O.C. has targeted corporate diversity, equity and inclusion programs, abandoned some discrimination cases and stopped enforcing workplace protections for transgender workers. It is of a piece with a suite of executive actions that are remaking the American workplace by halting enforcement of sexual harassment rules and encouraging fewer mothers to work outside the home.

The E.E.O.C. plans to publish the proposed narrowing of conditions eligible for accommodations as soon as this month. Ms. Lucas is not expected to eliminate requirements that most directly protect women during pregnancy, said the people familiar with her plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planned changes are not final. But she could eliminate explicit protections for conditions that affect women who are not pregnant, the people said.

rump appointed Ms. Lucas as chair in 2025, the E.E.O.C. has brought dozens of cases and enforcement actions involving pregnancy-related discrimination, but she has said that she disapproves of the rule’s reach. “The rule fundamentally errs in conflating pregnancy and childbirth accommodation with accommodation of the female sex, that is, female biology and reproduction,” Ms. Lucas said in 2024. The E.E.O.C. said it would not comment on potential regulatory changes.

“As a working mother of two daughters, one of whom was born during her tenure at the E.E.O.C. following a high-risk pregnancy, Chair Lucas understands firsthand the importance of protecting pregnant women in the workplace,” a spokeswoman for the agency said. “She is proud to serve in the most pro-family administration and remains deeply committed to enforcing the laws that protect pregnant workers.” Some lawmakers and groups that push for women’s rights in the workplace said the broader rule captured precisely the law’s intent to cover the wide array of medical issues women experience as a result of their ability to get pregnant.

“Pregnancy has such a systemic effect on the human body,” said Jocelyn Samuels, a Democrat and former vice chair of the E.E.O.C. whom Mr. Trump appointed to the commission in his first term and fired in his second. She said the rule, which she helped write, reflects the law’s aim to ensure that pregnancy and related conditions “are not obstacles to a woman’s ability to remain employed and progress in the workplace.”

Ms. Samuels said she feared that curtailed regulations would leave workers, especially in low-wage hourly roles, at risk of losing their jobs or experiencing health crises. A study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin found that the 2022 law contributed to a nearly 10 percent decline in miscarriages. A Texas accountant won $376,000 in damages in a court decision this year concluding that her employer had violated the law in refusing to allow her to work remotely while pregnant. Warehouse workers have used the law as the basis of a class-action lawsuit claiming that Amazon denied accommodations to thousands of pregnant employees.

The law gained significance after the Supreme Court struck down federal abortion rights in 2022. Abortion has since been banned or restricted in 13 states, leading more women to travel across state lines to terminate pregnancies. Current regulations require employers to accommodate workers’ leave for the procedure, including time off for travel.

The E.E.O.C. could cut the list of “related medical conditions,” putting the matter to employers and courts to decide, some of the people familiar with the matter said. They also said wider religious exemptions are under consideration that would allow employers to refuse accommodations to workers whose medical conditions are deemed incompatible with their beliefs, the people said.

Eengineering disguised as bureaucratic rule making,” said Inimai Chettiar, president of A Better Balance, an organization that led the campaign for the law’s passage. After the E.E.O.C. in 2024 required employers to make accommodations for employees seeking abortions, Tennessee and 16 other Republican-led states filed a lawsuit challenging it, saying that the rule requires states and other employers to “facilitate workers’ abortions” even in states where abortion is banned. In 2025, a federal judge in Louisiana struck down the portion of the rule that required employers to make accommodations for what the judge called “purely elective abortions.”

The phrase is used by opponents of abortion, not medical professionals, said Dr. Allison A. Cowett, director of Family Planning Associates of Chicago. Dr. Cowett said removing abortion accommodations in the rule could hurt the roughly 5,000 women who travel from as far away as Texas and Florida to have abortions at her clinic each year. Her numbers of out-of-state patients have more than tripled since the Supreme Court removed federal abortion protections, she said. Dr. Cowett provides doctors’ notes to employers for women who travel to her clinic.

“The more people have to travel for an abortion, the more time off from work they need,” Dr. Cowett said. Writing the rule to carry out the law, the E.E.O.C. took an expansive view of its requirement that employers “make reasonable accommodations” for workers limited by “pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.” That approach split the views of some lawmakers who passed the original legislation.

listed dozens of conditions and procedures, including abortion, fertility treatments, endometriosis, menstruation and plugged milk ducts. It included past pregnancy, potential or intended pregnancy and use of contraception. When lawmakers debated the legislation in the Senate, its principal Republican author, Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, a physician, said, “I reject the characterization that this would do anything to promote abortion.”

After the E.E.O.C. included abortion in the rules, Mr. Cassidy wrote to the regulators that its “decision to inject abortion politics” into the definition of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions had “ignored the statute and substituted its views on abortion for those of Congress.” But Representative Jerry Nadler, Democrat of New York, another author of the law, said protections for abortion and many conditions were intended. “We wanted it to be very broad,” he said.

The commission said after Mr. Trump nominated Ms. Lucas last year that she planned “to reconsider portions of the Final Rule that she believes are unsupported by law.” Whatever changes are made would likely push more decisions to courts, said Gillian Thomas, senior counsel with the American Civil Liberties Union’s Women’s Rights Project.

“It’s going to put employers in the position of making medical decisions about the reproductive health of their workers,” Ms. Thomas said.

Judge Dismisses Trump Harvard Admissions Probe Case

A Federal Judge on 11/2/2026, Dismissed a Lawsuit by Trump's (R) Administration seeking to Force Harvard University to turn over Records for an Investigation into whether it continues to consider Race in its Student Admissions Pprocess. U.S. District Judge Myong Joun in Boston, Rejected the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Lawsuit, which Harvard contends was filed as part of a Broader Campaign by Trump Administration against the Ivy League School.

The Judge Stressed that His Decision rested on Narrow, Procedural Grounds and did Not Resolve whether the DOJ and U.S. Department of Education (DOE) could ultimately seek Data on Thousands of High School Students who sought Aadmission at Harvard.

But Joun, an Appointee of President Joe Biden (D), Agreed with Harvard that the DOJ Sued without taking All Legally Required Steps aimed at Securing the University's Voluntary Compliance with its Demands for Applicant-Level Data.

"For example, the complaint does not allege that DOJ informed Harvard of the action it would take — namely, litigation — should Harvard fail to comply, nor does the complaint allege the specific failure identified," Joun wrote.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based University has already Secured Rulings from other Judges Rejecting the Administration's efforts to Terminate over $2 billion in Grants, Bblock the School from Hosting Iinternational Students, and Sue it for Allegedly Ffailing to Protect Jewish and Israeli Students from Harassment.

The DOJ Filed the Case before Joun in 2/2026, Arguing that Harvard was Not Complying with Investigations into whether it is following the U.S. Supreme Court's 2023 Ruling Rejecting Race-Conscious Admissions Programs used to Boost Enrollment of Minority Students.

T

he Administration said it needed Years of Applicant-Level Admissions Data to Determine whether Race Remains a Factor in Harvard's Admissions Decisions and if the Uuniversity is Complying with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which Bars Racial Discrimination in Education Programs.

The University's Lawyers Countered that the Case was Filed to Retaliate against Harvard for Refusing Demands that it Overhaul its Governance, Hiring and Academic Programs to Align with the Administration's Agenda.

They said the lawsuit was filed after Trump announced in early February that he was ending settlement talks and wanted $1 billion in damages from Harvard, which he said had "been, for a long time, behaving very badly."

Joun, in Dismissing the Case on 22/2/2026, Stressed that He was Not Resolving whether Harvard has Discriminated or if it may Ultimately be Required to Pprovide Data to the Agencies. The DOJ could try to pursue a similar Case again, if it takes additional Administrative Steps, He said.

NYC Mayor Legal Action Over ICE Using Parking Lots

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) has threatened to take legal action against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over allegations the agency’s officers are using Parking Lots owned by New York City for operations in the area.

In a letter to the Trump (R) Administration, Mamdani noted the agency’s use of property owned by the city was “unauthorized and is therefore illegal, endangers City residents, and sows fear among those who seek to access City property”.

He added, “if your agents continue any unauthorized use of these lots, New York City will take legal action to prevent this unlawful commandeering of City property.”

The letter called on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other ICE officials to issue guidance immediately to ICE agents that stipulate they are prohibited from using any New York City parking lots to stage or conduct operations.

Federal Court dismisses suit against New York’s sanctuary laws in a loss for Trump Administration. New York City has been a Sanctuary City for immigrants since Mayor Ed Koch’s (D) administration in 1989. NYC was created before NY became a State, and has its own Charter.

The Mamdani Administration has Criticized the Trump Administration over ICE Activity in New York City, calling for ICE to be Abolished in the wake of a shooting by an ICE officer of Oscar Belgal, 28, while he was picking up his five-year-old child from school.

Lawyers for Belgal claimed the ICE agent did not identify himself while wearing plainclothes before he ran up to Belgal’s car, smashed in the windows, then fired several shots into the vehicle.

The Trump Administration recently lost a legal challenge of New York City’s sanctuary laws filed in July 2025.

The Mamdani administration and more than 100 elected Officials in New York have also urged Private Owners and Operators of Parking Garages to prohibit ICE from using their private property for operations in the city.

“Our neighbors should not live in fear that the parking lot down the block could become a staging ground for an operation that puts their communities at risk,” Mamdani wrote in a 10/15/2026 Letter to more than a thousand parking garage owners and operators in New York City. “I am asking every garage and lot owner in this city to stop giving them that option. Do not rent your property to ICE. Do not lend it to them. Tell them they are not welcome.”

A Spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told the New York Times in response to the Letter: “ICE’s presence in public parking lots is fully authorized under federal law and is a standard practice for law enforcement agencies nationwide. “Mayor Mamdani should be grateful to our brave law enforcement officers for cleaning up the streets of NYC since he won’t.”

Russia Loses more Troops

Russia is Losing 6,000 more Troops in Ukraine each month, than it can Recruit. While Russia is still Acquiring New Battlefield Recruits, with an Estimated Rate of 1,000 a day in the last Two Months, even this has Not been Sufficient to Replace those Killed or Injured. “We estimate that the gap between the number of people Russia is losing to casualties and the number they’re being able to recruit is around 6,000 a month at the moment,” One Western Official said.

Putin’s Response to this has been to to Target Civilian Infrastructure and Civilians in Ukraine, Firing over 360 Missiles since Eearly 7/2026 and Exploiting Kyiv’s Shortage of Defence against Ballistic Missiles. It’s Clear that Moscow intends to try and Break Ukrainian Morale by Destroying its Energy Infrastructure this Winter. Such Tactics are in part because Putin has Limited Options for Overcoming the Huge Losses on the Battlefield with more Recruitment.

Western Officials believe further Mobilisation would be a Big Risk both Politically and Economically, saying the last such Event, in Autumn 2022, saw about a Million, often Highly Skilled Russians leave the Country, with less than Half Returning. It is also Unclear whether the Russian Military could Absorb the Several Hundred Thousand New Recruits which would Result, given a Lack of Equipment and Officers.

Ukraine has Repeatedly Attacked Russian Targets connected to Oil, Creating Fuel Shortages, but has Appealed Repeatedly for more Help from Allies, both with Offensive Missiles and Defence Systems. Andy Burnham, a Brtish Labour politician, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Leader of the Labour Party, has told Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that the UK will Share Information about Storm Shadow Missile Components with Kyiv.

Andy Burnham visited Kyiv on His First Overseas trip as Prime Minister this week. He told Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the UK would give Ukraine previously Classified Information on the British-Manufactured Components for Long-Range Cruise Missiles. Burnham has also Urged the International Community to do more to Protect Ukraine against Russian Attacks, particularly with more U.S. made Patriot Interceptor Missiles. He is expected to make this Argument at Next Month’s UN General Assembly in New York.

In Response, Russia has made repeated Threats of Retaliation, including Ttalk of Attacks on UK Military Targets both Inside and Ooutside Ukraine. The Western Officials said that while the Threat from Russia Remained very Real, the Situation had Nnot changed, and the Assessment was that “Putin absolutely wants to avoid a direct confrontation with Nato”.

One Official said: “We are seeing a continuation of hostile rhetoric and various accusations against the UK. This is absolutely consistent with longstanding Russian military doctrine, which is to use rhetoric to both exploit fears in adversaries and to influence decision-making. So this is not a new phenomenon.” Emergency Rescuers carry Debris through a Hypermarket Destroyed by a Drone Strike.

Officials say Russia still has the Capability to Target the UK, with Cyberattacks or Physical Attacks on Civilian Targets by Proxies, for example on Factories or Warehouses. In 2025, Six Men were Jailed for their Involvement in an Attack Ordered by Russia against a Warehouse in East London Housing Aid to Ukraine.

But Officials said their Assessment was that Putin would Limit any such Action to Avoid more Direct Conflict with Nato. Putin’s Overall Aaim in Ukraine, Western Officials Believe, is to Maintain a Campaign of Attrition, hoping that Support from Ukraine’s Allies will Ebb away, particularly if Governments are Spooked by Public Alarm over Russian Threats.

Such Threats should be seen, One Official said, as Sttempts to Ccreate a “fractured and more vulnerable Europe”. Another said: “It’s important to keep in mind that this is not new. Russia has invoked the threat of the possible use of nuclear weapons numerous times in recent years to try to scare us into ending support for Ukraine.”

Retirement Rules Changed by Trump

1. Tightened Overpayment Rules: In 2025, Trump (R) Rolled Back a Biden (D) Rule that Limited the Amount of Money the Social Security Administration (SSA) can Garnish from Benefit Checks to Cover Unpaid Debts. After briefly Raising the Agency’s Withholding Rate from 10% of Benefit Checks to 100%, a Level described by former SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley as “clawback cruelty”.

2. the Agency Silently Dropped its Withholding Rate to 50% by the End of 2026.

3. How Cruel, a 50% Withholding Rate is Depends on Your Financial Situation. For many Vulnerable Seniors, Suddenly Lsing Half of their Benefits could be Enough to Push them into Genuine Financial Distress.

4. If you’re carrying Debt, as you Approach Retirement, you’re far from Alone. Baby Boomers, those between 61 and 79, had an Average of more than $92,000 in Debt as of 6/2025, According to Experian. But Carrying a Large Balance into Retirement can become more than just a Budgeting Headache. With Social Security Benefits potentially Subject to Greater Withholding to Satisfy certain Unpaid Debts, every Dollar that gets Diverted from Your Benefit Check can make it Harder to Cover your Everyday Expenses.

That makes Reducing High-Interest Debt before you Retire an Important Part of Protecting your Retirement Income. If you’re juggling several Credit Cards or Loans, Debt Consolidation through a Personal Loan could Help, particularly if you Qqualify for a Lower Interest Rate. You could Potentially Reduce your Interest Costs and Replace several Monthly Payments with One.

If you Owe a Substantial Amount, you may also want to see if you Qualify for a Debt Relief Program to Help Clear a Substantial Portion of your Debt. Getting Out-of-Debt is One Piece of the Retirement Puzzle. The Other is Making sure you don’t leave Social Security Money on the Table once it’s time to Claim your Benefits.

The Warliest you can generally Claim Social Security Retirement Benefits is 62. But there’s a Trade-Off, Claiming that Early can Permanently Shrink your Monthly Benefit by Roughly 30%. On the other hand, Delaying your Claim until 70 allows You to earn Delayed Retirement Credits, boosting the Size of Your Monthly Checks. Of course, Waiting isn’t Automatically the Right Answer. Your Eexpected Longevity, Household Income, Spousal Benefits, and Tax Situation can All Affect which Claiming Strategy makes the Most Sense for You.

Keep a Back-Up Plan: A Self-Funded Safety Net could be Your Backup Plan, if the Social Safety Net ever Fails you. With a Certificate of Deposit (CD), you Lock in a Rate-up-Front, so your Earnings stay Fixed for a set Term, even if Market Rates Slip.

Setting Aside a Sall Portion of Your Benefits in High-Yield CDs, can Help you Build a Robust Safety Net that Covers your Living Expenses for 3-6 Months in an Emergency.

5. WEP/GPO Repeal For nearly Half a Century, Teachers, Firefighters and Police Officers across America received less Social Security than they were Owed. The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) Reduced Social Security for Workers who also Received a Government Pension, while the Government Pension Offset (GPO) Dating to 1977), Cut or Eliminated Spousal and Survivor Benefits by Two-Thirds of the Pension Amount.

This Changed when President Joe (D) Signed the Social Security Fairness Act (7) into Law on 1/5/2026, repealing the Two Provisions that had
Reduced or Eliminated Benefits for more than 2.8 million Public-Sector Workers and their Spouses. If you or your Spouse belongs to this Group, you should be Aware that you may be Entitled to Compensation if you haven’t Received it Already.

6. RMD Ages Quietly Pushed Back If you’re Relatively Affluent, you’re probably already Planning to Deal with Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). Anyone with a Sizable Balance in Pre-Tax Retirement Accounts, such as 401(k) Plans, should be Aware of this Rule to Avoid a Huge Tax Bill later in Life.

But you might Not Know that the Government is quietly Pushing Bback the Age for RMDs. As of 2026, RMDs kick in at age 73, according to the SSA (8). However, the SECURE 2.0 ACT of 9/2022 Pushes this Age to 75, Effective 1/2033. Simply put, if you’re Still in your Early 60s or Younger, you have more room to Plan for RMDs and more Time to Execute Plans like Roth Conversions to Avoid them.

Doing this Yourself can still be Complicated, especially if you have Sizable Retirement Account Balances, so it’s Worth Hiring an Eexpert to Help you Plan. If you have a Portfolio of $250,000.
