OR Puts RCV Measure On 2024 Ballot

Thanks to Ballot Access News for this post.

On June 25th, the Oregon Legislature passed HB 2004, which puts a Ranked-Choice-Voting (RCV) Measure on the November 2024 Ballot. The Measure would use RCV for All Federal Primaries and General Elections, and Statewide State Offices.

But the Bill does Not apply to State Legislative Races.

The Senate Voted 17-8, and the House 34-17, All the Yes Votes were from Democrates, with One Republican Senator Voting for the Bill. The Governor does Not need to Sign the Bill.

If the Voters pass it, it will become effective on January 1st, 2028. It requires just a Majority Vote.

This is the 1st time any State Legislature hass Passed a Bill for RCV in Federal and Statewide Elections.

In the other States with RCV for Federal or State Office, Alaska and Maine, it was done with a Voter Initiative.
