Half of People ages 16-39, don’t know if they live in a State with Open or Closed Primaries, but 85% of them know they prefer Open Primaries.
So says Students for Open Primaries, which surveyed 1,000 People about their views on Political Parties and Primary systems.
Respondents overwhelmingly favored a system that places All Candidates on One Primary Ballot, with the Top Vote-Getters advancing to the General Election, egardless of Party, like the Primaries in Alaska, California, and Washington.
Their view makes sense when Young analyzed alongside other Results from the Primary, found Voters on the outs with Political Parties:
- 65% identified as Independent Voters.
- 68% say they do Not feel like they are Represented by either of the Two Major Political Parties.
- 80% believe Elected Officials are more Loyal to Parties than constituents.
- 80% say Close Primaries are a problem impacting Young Voters.
I am an registered Independent in New York. I served as an Elected Official for 12 years, representing the NY State Independence Party, and then the New York City Independence Party.
