The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) is a 303-mile-long Fracked Gas Pipeline that is steamrolling its way through Virginia and West Virginia. The Pipeline threatens Fresh Water, our Climate, and Land throughout Appalachia.
Late last month, the MVP asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a Four-year Extension on their Permit, giving them even more time to finish a Project that’s already been a Disaster for our Climate, and Communities throughout Appalachia. FERC has until July 29th, to decide whether or Not to let this Boondoggle continue to move forward.
Joe Manchin (D-WV) has written them begging for the Pipeline to be Permitted. But FERC is independent. They don't answer to Manchin, they answer to the Public Interest and to Climate Hawks.
For years, Communities harmed by the Pipeline have worked to Protect their Health, Homes, and Environment. And they’re winning!
Earlier this year, a Federal Court revoked Two key Federal Permits for the MVP, because Agencies did Not do a proper Review of the Project. This means the Pipeline will need to Reapply for these Permits from the Biden Administration.
The Court Rulings are the latest Evidence of a series of Flawed Environmental and Social Justice Reviews done by Federal Agencies under previous Administrations.
But it’s still up to FERC to decide if this is the End of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, or just another Costly Delay that will Defer, but Not Deny, Manchin's favorite Pipeline.
