Local Represent.Us members and partners have identified states where they have a real shot of passing Anti-Corruption Acts in 2016. They are already gathered signatures to qualify for the ballot, and ballot language will be filed with the Secretary of States.
Watch the CBS Sunday Morning clip: A new face is on the political horizon: "Honest Gil" Fulbright, whose ads promise exactly what no politician dares promise: to be loyal to fundraisers and cash-laden lobbyists at the expense of voters. He's the brainchild of Represent Us, a bipartisan grassroots organization dedicated to attacking the influence of money in politics.
Each Anti-Corruption Act they pass, not only cleans up local and state governments, it builds power on the way to a national win:
- Politicians may no longer take money from the interests they write laws for.
- Shady contributions and coordination by Super PACs are drastically reduced.
- Public servants may not become lobbyists immediately after leaving office
- Lobbyists can't make massive contributions to political campaigns.
- Every single political donation must be disclosed.
- Voters are empowered with a small donor system.
- Tougher enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
- Protects the First Amendment right to free speech.
