SC Republican Closed Primary Idea Passes

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for this post.

On June 12th, South Carolina held Primaries. the Republican Primary Ballot included this Question:

Do you believe that voters should have the option to chose to affiliate with a political party when they register to vote or change their voter registration in South Carolina?

The Measure passed with 82.4%.

However it is Not Binding.

It will be used to try to Persuade Republican Legislators to Pass a Bill Next Year Letting Parties to Close their Primaries.

The Bill that the Question Supports (H.4418). The Party’s Goal is to Disenfranchise all who don’t swear Allegiance to a Political Party, by Ending South Carolina’s Practice of Allowing All Voters to participate in whichever Primary they Prefer.
