VA Top-Two Bill Loses in Committee

Thanks to Richard Winger from Ballot Access News for this post.

On February 8ty, the Virginia Top-Two bill failed to pass the House Elections Committee.

A Subcommittee on January 30th had suggested the bill be tabled.

The vote in Subcommittee was 4-3.

The Bill is HJ 541 by Delegate Sam Rasoul (D-Roanoke).

Rasoul, who introduced similar Legislation last year, hoped to limit the influence of Political Parties in Primaries by combining all candidates for a specific State office to one Ballot, and then the Top-Two Vote-getters would advance to the General Election.
